From 10 Spreadsheets to One Dashboard
An energy company's executives were making safety decisions based on data scattered across 10+ systems. We built the single view they needed—and eliminated 50+ hours of manual reporting weekly.
The Situation
Following safety incidents, this pipeline operator needed better visibility into risk across 18,000+ miles of infrastructure. The data existed—buried in maintenance logs, inspection reports, incident databases, and compliance systems. But piecing it together took analysts days, and by the time executives saw the full picture, it was already out of date.
The Challenge
Nobody agreed on which metrics mattered. Each department had their own spreadsheets, their own definitions, their own priorities. Before we could build anything, we had to get 10+ stakeholders aligned on what 'risk visibility' actually meant for their business.
What We Built
We started with interviews, not code. After talking to every stakeholder, we designed 40+ potential metrics, then facilitated workshops where executives debated and prioritized together. Only then did we build—using agile sprints that let us iterate based on real feedback. The result was a dashboard people actually used because they'd helped design it.
The Results
50+ hours/week of manual reporting eliminated
$1M+ annual service contract
10 systems consolidated into one view
